TACC-Madison hosted a celebration for Noah’s Pudding Day (Aşure). We gave a presentation about Prophet Noah and Noah’s Pudding traditions in Turkey.

Kurban Bayramı - Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice)  is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of prophet Abraham (İbrahim) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God, but instead was able to sacrifice a ram (by God’s command). Eid is also about spending time with family and friends, sacrifice, and thanksgiving for being able to afford food and housing. We celebrated Ramadan Bayrami (Eid-ul-Fitr) at Warner Park Community Recreation Center. We had a bayram breakfast that is typical Turkish breakfast with tea. In addition to the breakfast as it is known without dessert you cannot celebrate the bayram. So we had a lot of delicious desserts including baklava.
Tuncer Edil, a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of Wisconsin-Madison, made a introductory speech. He spoke about old bayram celebrations in Turkey and in Madison. We remembered our childhood bayram celebrations.  He said children used to visit elder people …

The Mother’s Day Celebration program at the TACC-Madison was an unforgettable day of emotions, fun and laughter.
It was a day where the children of the caring mothers of our community performed wonderful skits and recited poems. Tuğba has done a wonderful job as an announcer. The people loved it when a song was performed by Selin to all the mothers out there. Everyone cried with joy with beautifully recited poems by Betül and Vildan.  Fatih, Rıza, Yunus Emre and Mert sang a very emotional song …

James Goulding, instructor in the Religious Studies Department of Edgewood College, gave a speech about Prophet Noah’s story from Christianity perspective. There was also a presentation about Prophet Noah in Qur’an and the Noah’s Pudding celebration tradition in Turkey.
