Ramadan Bayrami Celebration with Bayram Breakfast

20 September 2009 1,615 views No Comment

We celebrated Ramadan Bayrami (Eid-ul-Fitr) at Warner Park Community Recreation Center. We had a bayram breakfast that is typical Turkish breakfast with tea. In addition to the breakfast as it is known without dessert you cannot celebrate the bayram. So we had a lot of delicious desserts including baklava.

Tuncer Edil, a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of Wisconsin-Madison, made a introductory speech. He spoke about old bayram celebrations in Turkey and in Madison. We remembered our childhood bayram celebrations.  He said children used to visit elder people in bayrams and elder people used to give money to them as a gift. Then all children were going to a city fair for entertainment.

Then TACC-Madison Weekend School students had a very good performance, songs, short theatre plays, and poems about Ramadan. Although they had a very short time to be prepared, they did a wonderful job with the support of their volunteer teachers. Thanks to teachers Mrs. Kılınç and Mrs. Ertem.

We said bye to Ramadan again this year. It left a lot of good memories for us. We will miss Ramadan. See you next Ramadan.
