Mother's Day Celebrated

 

TACC-Madison celebrated the Mother’s Day on May ‘12. The event was very welcomed by the attendees from Madison and surrounding cities. After a brief presentation about motherhood, the students of the TACC-Madison weekend school –Vildan Karaca, Busra Karaca, Cheyenne Kisa- stepped on the stage and recited poems about mothers. The mother of the year award went to Sona Tairov from the Ahiskan Turkish community.

A Presentation on Turkey and Turkish Culture in Kandu Fundraiser Event

TACC Madison offered a full scale presentation on Turkey and Turkish Culture during a fundraiser dinner organized 

by Kandu Industries in Janesville, WI on May 2nd, 2013.

All the proceeds from the event went to help provide services to Kandu`s clients; people with disabilities. A team of eleven Turkish people participated in the event to represent Turkey. Master of the ceremonies for the presentation was Muammer Kaya, a longtime resident of Madison.  Kaya talked about Turkish history, cultural aspects and economics of Modern Turkey in 15 minute intervals.

Yeryüzü Günü Madison’da Kutlandı

Madison Türk Kültür Merkezi’nin (Turkish American Cultural Center of Madison) Niagara Vakfı ile ortaklaşa düzenlediği kültür söyleşisinin konuğu Wisconsin İçişleri Bakanı Doug La Follette oldu. 
 
Otuz yılı aşkın süredir bakanlık görevini sürdüren Follette, aynı zamanda Wisconsin eyaletindeki Yeryüzü Günü (Earth Day) kutlamalarının da öncülerinden biri. Çevre bilinci ile ilgili kitabı da bulunan Follette, Türk Kültür Merkezi’ndeki söyleşisi çerçevesinde Yeryüzü Günü’nün tarihini anlattıktan sonra çevre ve ekolojik dengenin korunması adına yapılması gerekenlerden bahsetti.

A History of Earth Days and Today's Predicament, by Daug La Follette

On April 18, 2013, TACC-Madison, in conjunction with Niagara Foundation hosted the Secretary of State of Wisconsin, Doug La Follette as apart of Cultural Conversations series. As the leading figure of the first organizer of Earth Day in the state of Wisconsin back in 1970, Mr. Follette made a presentation about the history of Earth Day and the current environmental issues. He stated that the government has a great responsibility to keep the natural sources clean and sustainable by passing laws that prevent private companies to harm nature.

Movie Night, My Grandfather's People

The third of the Movie Night took place on April 6th at the Turkish Cultural Center.

This time it was My Grandfather's People by Cagan Irmak who also was the director of My Father and My Son.

The film tells the story of an immigrand family from Crite who had to abondone its homeland
